Power Converters

Question: Is there oil in a power converter? We plugged into a 30 AMP and smoke was coming from what looked like our converter. Then oil was dripping from one corner. We have a Gulf Stream 5th wheel.

The dealer says a converter doesn’t have oil in it. Maybe it is from the slide hydraulics. The electrician says converters have oil in them.

Answer: Here is the short answer – get your RV to an RV service center. You do not want to mess around with smoke and dripping oil. We wouldn’t even attempt to diagnose something like this remotely.

Don’t take any chances – get your RV someplace where there are qualified RV techs who can look at the problem in person and resolve it for you.
