VIN Number on Trailer

by Dorothy (Belmont, MS)

Question: Where can I find the registration number on my 28 ft. 1988 Prowler camper?

Answer: If you are referring to the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), then there are a few places you can look. Start with the trailer tongue, or frame rail leading to the hitch. It could be a metal plate welded on, or stamped into the metal.

Another possibility is that it may also be on a certificate inside one of the interior cupboards, along with the other information such as weight, size, type of heat, and electrical specifications.

Every street-legal vehicle or trailer is assigned a vehicle identification number, or VIN, at the point of manufacture. However there is no one standard location for these VIN plates, so you may have to do some searching.

If you don’t find it in one of the places mentioned above, then check the thick, heavy bars on the frame, and underneath the front and rear ends with a flashlight.

The VIN is a helpful number to have to look up details like the original factory specs; ownership, accident and theft histories and so forth.
